Etihad Airways has announced plans to launch daily service between Abu Dhabi and Vienna, Austria, citing increased demand among business and leisure travelers.
The new route will operate year-round. Etihad said that it will begin with four flights weekly beginning May 22, then increase to daily service on July 1. From September 1 through November 30, the service will drop back to five times per week before increasing to daily service again from December 1 onwards.
Departures have been timed to arrive early morning in Vienna and to connect in both directions via Etihad’s Abu Dhabi hub to gateways across the Etihad Network, including in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Southeast Asia and Australia. Flight EY 53 will depart Abu Dhabi at 2:55 a.m. and arrive in Vienna at 7:00 a.m., while flight EY 54 will depart Vienna at 11:45 a.m. and arrive in Abu Dhabi at 7:10 p.m.
“Vienna is the largest unserved market from Abu Dhabi and the announcement of this route brings the number of our European passenger destinations to 22,” said Etihad Aviation Group Chief Commercial Officer Robin Kamark in a written statement.
Etihad will use two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on the new route. The aircraft will have the airline’s next-generation Business and Economy cabins configured with 28 Business Studios and 262 Economy Smart Seats, for a total of 290 seats.
