Wylder Hotels has announced the opening of Wylder Windham in the town of Windham, NY, in the mountains of the Great Northern Catskills. It is the hospitality group’s third all-season resort.
Following extensive renovations of the former Thompson House Resort, which opened in 1880 and operated for 140 years under the same family ownership, Wylder Windham is welcoming guests at the Tamarack Lodge and the Main Lodge, with a full transformation set to complete in September 2022.
The property comprises seven lodges, inns, manors and cottages with a total of 110 rooms, including two- and three-bedroom suites with oak floors, custom furniture, luxurious bathrooms and large balconies with unobstructed views of Windham Mountain or the Batavia Kill. The Pines Inn has 28 rooms; the Tamarack Lodge has 16 rooms; the Manor and the Spruce Cottage have 14 rooms each; the Evergreen Lodge has 25 rooms; the Main Lodge offers 13 rooms; and the Farmhouse is a one-key residence. “The Baller Suite,” located in the Main Lodge, offers double balconies overlooking the pool with sweeping views of the mountain.
Babblers, the on-site restaurant serves comfort food and local fare with outdoor, waterside dining on the Batavia Kill. Babbler’s Bakery is open Wednesday to Sunday (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Other facilities include an oversized in-ground heated pool; a recreation room with pool tables, shuffleboard, vintage arcade games and foosball; a lawn with pickleball courts, hammocks, tree swings and fire pits, where lawn games and live entertainment can be enjoyed; and 4,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, well-suited for a range of corporate and social gatherings, and functions.
Guests will have access to electric bikes, tubing, a wood-fired sauna, a hot tub, a dog run and snowshoes, to name a few. Complimentary guest transportation is offered in a restored vintage Land Rover Defender 110 shuttle for off-site activities.
Sprawling across 20 pastoral acres spanning both sides of Route 296, the dog-friendly Wylder Windham is adjacent to Windham Country Club, an 18-hole public golf course; the Windham Path, a local favorite hiking trail; and a two-minute drive to Windham Ski Mountain. Nearby local businesses include The Vineyard at Windham, The Windham Local, Millrock Restaurant, Union + Post’s restaurant, The Windham Spa and Westkill Brewery.
