Marcus Hotels & Resorts has announced that the Hilton Milwaukee is undergoing a renovation, considered the most extensive project in the brand’s history. The project is expected to cost more than $40 million and be completed by summer 2025. It will encompass the transformation of the hotel’s guestrooms, 34,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces, and the lobby. Previously known as the Hilton Milwaukee City Center, the hotel has been rebranded to “Hilton Milwaukee"—as it is most commonly known—to coincide with the upcoming transformation.
As part of the renovation, the Hilton Milwaukee will renovate all 554 guestrooms in the historic hotel’s original footprint. The remaining 175 rooms located in the west tower will eventually be removed from available room inventory. The refreshed rooms will have motion sensor lighting, steamers, coffee machines and more. In addition to the aesthetic improvements, all guestrooms will receive updated heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. The corridors will also receive new wallcoverings and light woodwork throughout.
The hotel’s three ballrooms, pre-function spaces and meeting rooms will also undergo extensive renovations. Dating to the early 20th century, each ballroom has historical elements such as high ceilings, antique mirrors, chandeliers, gold-leafed adornments and silver accents, which will be carefully restored to their former glory. The meeting and event spaces will receive, as well, new carpeting, draperies and wall coverings. Complementing the elevated aesthetic will be a full modernization of the spaces’ functional capabilities, including a new sound system, updated HVAC and lighting controls and new digital signage throughout.
Originally built in 1928 as the Schroeder Hotel, the Hilton Milwaukee is directly connected to the Baird Convention Center. In 2011, the hotel became a member of Historic Hotels of America. The property’s central location means guests are neary attractions including the city’s Theater District, the lakefront and Summerfest grounds, Fiserv Forum, the Deer District and the Historic Third Ward.
