La Cantera Resort & Spa in San Antonio is paying homage to its Texas Hill Country backdrop as it unveils its newly updated guestrooms. The $40 million refresh draws inspiration from Texas’s iconic King Ranch Estate, blending historical elegance with contemporary sophistication.
Completed this month, the 11-month refresh spans the resort’s 496 guestrooms and 34 private villas, marking the first significant renovation since 2017. With interior design curated by Looney & Associates, guests will notice new design elements within the bathroom, specifically the color and pattern of the shower tile inspired by hand-painted terracotta mosaics. Complementary fabrics and textures enhance the overall comfort and elegance. The 34 villas are located in their own enclave, offering seclusion, privacy and additional luxurious touches, such as a separate check-in and dedicated golf cart per room. SEVEN, a 46-room "adults only" guest floor experience, includes complimentary valet, personal concierge, and private check-in.
Founded in 1853 and encompassing 825,000 acres, the notable King Ranch Estate is located just 160 miles south of the resort, serving as a major agribusiness with interests in cattle ranching, farming, luxury retail goods and recreational hunting. For over 160 years, King Ranch led some of the first cattle drives, bred the finest Quarter Horses and produced champion thoroughbreds.

La Cantera Resort & Spa is situated atop the highest elevation point in San Antonio, on a 550-acre plot. The resort is home to five pools, heated year-round, including Topaz, the adults-only infinity edge pool overlooking the Texas Hill Country. Additional amenities include the Loma de Vida Spa & Wellness, a 25,000 square foot destination spa with outdoor Sky Loft treatment suites, and a championship golf course, La Cantera Resort Course, designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish. There are also 12 dining options, including the Michelin Guide-recommended signature restaurant. The Calera, a new event space in 2025, set among the Hill Country landscape, provides a stunning backdrop for weddings and events.
Tip: Guests can take advantage of La Cantera Resort & Spa’s “Free is More Fun” offer, enjoying a third night free when booking a two-night stay; the offer is valid until August 28, 2025.
