The Dorchester to Reveal First Stage of Reno in September

The Dorchester has announced that the first phase of its renovation will be completed in September this year. Situated in the heart of London since 1931, this hotel in Mayfair district has Hyde Park on its doorstep.

The hotel has roped in Pierre-Yves Rochon to redesign its entrance, The Promenade, new Cake & Flowers boutique, and the guestrooms and suites. Martin Brudnizki Design Studio has been appointed to redesign the bar.

New signature and junior suites will be introduced, allowing for spacious and more residential-style accommodation, while new lighting will rejuvenate the exterior of The Dorchester’s façade. Guests will arrive onto an enhanced forecourt, featuring a landscaped garden. The arrival experience will extend into an open lobby, bookended by two artworks.

The Promenade will capture guests’ imagination as they move beyond the lobby into the heart of the hotel and the setting for dining experiences, including The Dorchester’s afternoon tea. A new destination will be unveiled towards the end of The Promenade. An original collection of contemporary artworks by British artists will be revealed throughout The Promenade.

The bar’s new interior is inspired by the spirit of the roaring ’30s. The new layout allows for a dedicated Park Lane entrance and a terrace with views towards Hyde Park. An upper area of the bar and provides more privacy without compromising on the atmosphere. A series of Cecil Beaton pieces will be on display within the bar. Some of Beaton’s original drawings and celebrity photography will be brought together with work by contemporary artists, including Rosie Emmerson.

With its own entrance on the Deanery Street corner of the hotel is Cake & Flowers, a new offering. Within, shelves and cases will be filled with signature pastries and cakes to take away, besides gift hampers, floral bouquets and a selection of champagnes and artisan chocolates.

The hotel remains open for guests throughout the renovation with afternoon tea served in the Orchid Room and a Mediterranean concept at The Dorchester Rooftop throughout the summer. The Grill, Alain Ducasse and China Tang will continue to remain open as normal, as will The Dorchester Spa. The Ballroom, the Penthouse & Pavilion and the Chef’s Table will be available for corporate and social events.
