PROMTUR Panama is participating in IBTM Americas 2021 being held in Mexico City on August 18-19. The event is an annual international trade show that connects the meetings and events industry across North America, Latin America and Europe. Participating with six local suppliers, including destination management companies, hotels and professional conference organizers, Panama will highlight top offerings for the MICE market throughout Panama City and its attractions.
As part of networking and engagement with key industry leaders at IBTM Americas, Panama’s delegation will promote the destination’s tourism offerings under its "Master Plan for Sustainable Tourism," recently recognized by UNESCO as an example of innovation and sustainability. The plan reactivates Panama's "Tourism, Conservation and Research" (TCR) strategy and focuses on three core areas: Cultural Heritage (multifaceted culture and rich history), Green Heritage (extraordinary biodiversity) and Blue Heritage (ocean wonders).
Business-related events in Panama, including seminars, training, conferences, forums, congresses, conventions and exhibitions, have reopened at 25 percent capacity with strict health and safety protocols in place. After reopening its borders to international travelers in October 2020, Panama continues to position itself as a premier destination, offering a range of hotels and venues that meeting planners can choose for their next event.
Additionally, the Panama Convention Center, situated in Panama City’s Amador Causeway, is set to open in 2021. Located on the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal, the convention center will have an occupancy of up to 23,000 guests, attracting gatherings where social distancing is required.
Panama is easily accessible via direct flights from major international airports in the U.S., Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. Additional incentives for hosting an event in Panama include various benefits for participating groups, which may range from discounts on airline tickets for VIPs to airport and hotel transfers, promotional material, support from the country’s DMO in promoting the event and more.
Panama has also obtained a "Safe Travels" Stamp from the World Travel and Tourism Council, based on the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for effective global recovery protocols. In May 2021, it also began accepting the IATA Travel Pass as a digital travel credential for passengers to store their COVID-19 test result, which is required for entry into the country.
