With a new medical school, five hospitals in a central city district and a growing base of innovative companies, Visit Fort Worth hosted 22 meeting planners to showcase the city’s growing prominence within the industry. The tourism organization partnered with Meeting Professionals International (MPI) to host MPI’s first MedCon in Fort Worth on November 5-7, 2023, showcasing Fort Worth’s qualities and appeal, positioning the city as an unexpected destination for medical meetings.
Attendees signed up to obtain the Healthcare Meeting Compliance Certificate (HMCC), learn more about Fort Worth as a medical meetings destination and tour the University of North Texas’ Health Science Center. Attendees also experienced the Stockyards, Cultural District, the Worthington Renaissance Hotel and the new Crescent Hotel.
Special guests at MedCon included local medical leaders: Dr. Stuart D. Flynn, founding dean of the new Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine at Texas Christian University; Judy Bernas, senior associate dean for strategy and communications from the Burnett School; and Chris Chaney, special project manager for the Health Science Center.
Located just 20 minutes from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Fort Worth has everything meeting planners are looking for when selecting a destination. Visitors can experience western heritage and entertainment in the Stockyards, including the world’s only twice-daily cattle drive, the Cultural District’s five museums, the Sundance Square district downtown and a culinary scene with global restaurants and chefs. The Medical Innovation District adjacent to downtown is anchored by five hospitals and Texas Christian University's Burnett School, and enhanced by entrepreneurship, innovation and research.
Healthcare is not only good business but also part of the city’s overall objective to promote quality of life for its residents. Mayor Mattie Parker recently announced the Good Natured Green Space initiative to bring public and private partners together to shape and enhance greenspace investment in Fort Worth, prioritizing the health of residents and visitors.
