In the wake of COVID-19, Sonesta International Hotels Corporation, a global hospitality brand with more than 80 properties in seven countries, is introducing flexible cancellation policies for group meetings, events and individual reservations. As this unprecedented situation is ever evolving, Sonesta wants to give its guests confidence in making reservations without penalty.
Future meetings and events impacted by COVID-19, such as those which go against the CDC’s guidelines of group sizes, may now terminate agreements without cost or liability. Planners must notify hotel of the cancellation at least five business days before the start of the event, or by May 31, 2020, whichever occurs first, to qualify. This clause will remain available for all new contracts closed during this time of uncertainty, as well as for bookings as far into the future as the group has interest.
Sonesta is also offering greater flexibility for hotel bookings made directly on the company website. Effective immediately, Sonesta has issued a 4PM day of arrival cancellation policy for individual reservations through June 15, 2020 at all of its U.S. hotels.
The COVID-19 crisis is prompting a series of closures and cancellations, as few are willing to travel for events. Borders are shutting down, and airlines are cutting flights, though the recently announced 2 trillion dollar stimulus package, if enacted, may provide some relief to the meetings industry.
